Civilian Review Board Cases
The Civilian Review Board (CRB) is part of the City of Boston's Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT). OPAT investigates civilian complaints against BPD employees, the board votes a finding on each BPD rule alleged (Sustained, Not Sustained, Unfounded, Exonerated, ...) and recommends discipline, and the Police Commissioner responds. This dataset is built from the case reports and BPD response letters OPAT publishes on boston.gov, one record per officer per case. CRB findings are the civilian board's, not BPD Internal Affairs findings: BPD often refers them to Internal Affairs for its own review or declines to implement them, so they are kept separate from Internal Affairs Cases. Most reports from 2025 on name each officer with their employee ID (matched to the officer's profile by ID); many earlier reports are anonymized, and officers named without an ID are matched by name. Every record was checked against its report before loading.
